This book tells the story of a young farmer, Huasheng, who has a deep grudge against a landlord, Fu Aru. Later, Hwaseng leads the peasants to resist paying exorbitant taxes, but Fu Aru still forces them to pay rent and kills an old peasant. Hwaseng leads the peasants to besiege the township office, and the landlords and gentry collude with the army to suppress the peasants' resistance. The work reflects the sharp class antagonism in the countryside during the Agrarian Revolutionary War.
